Part of the fun of shopping for a new vehicle is having so many great options to choose from these days, which lets you get exactly what you need. All of these different models can get a bit overwhelming, however, so it helps to take a little time to see what each vehicle has to offer. If you are looking for a great midsize truck that is affordable and powerful, then the 2022 Honda Ridgeline is a terrific choice with everything you need. Whether you want a pickup to help you get your job done, go off-road on the weekend, or both, the Ridgeline is one of the best options you will find.

Some trucks out there have so many different options available that figuring out the right combination to meet your needs becomes a massive headache. Honda has simplified this by giving you a fantastic truck no matter what trim you choose, with a powerful 3.5L V6 engine that delivers 280 hp. Every model comes with this engine, so your trim choice is more about other features, like technology and luxury upgrades, rather than having to pay more for the kind of power and capability you deserve. This also means that every Honda Ridgeline model can handle up to 5,000 lbs of towing capacity to help you get your job done.

Every 2022 Ridgeline comes with Honda's Intelligent Variable Torque Management (i-VTM4) All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system to give you fantastic traction and maneuverability even in the toughest road conditions. This also makes the Ridgeline a great choice if you want to go off-road with your pickup, and you do not have to pay more or choose a specific trim for that to be an option. Inside, you will find a wide range of comfort and technology features, including a standard 8-inch infotainment display, tri-zone automatic climate control, and much more. Plus, every Ridgeline model comes with impressive safety features like a Collision Mitigation Braking System and Adaptive Cruise Control standard.

Performance And Towing

Capability You Need

When you are looking for a truck, even a midsize model, you should look for one that has the kind of performance and capabilities that you need. It does not matter if you need a truck for work or play (or both); the kind of power it has and how well it lets you use that power is very important. The 2022 Honda Ridgeline is a great midsize truck because it has an impressive 3.5L V6 engine that delivers 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque standard in every model. This comes paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission that features Shift-by-Wire and paddle shifters to keep you in control at all times.

Even more impressive than the powerful standard engine, however, is the fact that every Ridgeline model comes with Honda's i-VTM4 AWD system. There are other midsize trucks out there with their own AWD options available, but most of them offer it as an upgrade that you have to pay more to get. With the Honda Ridgeline, you get the brand's legendary AWD standard on all models, and that includes the Intelligent Traction Management system. This gives you three different terrain types to choose from: Snow, Sand, and Mud––simply select the kind of road conditions you are dealing with, and the Ridgeline adjusts automatically to boost traction.

Textbook Performance

Ultimately, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline is a textbook example of getting fantastic performance and capability in a truck without having to pay more for it, something other manufacturers typically require. Since every Ridgeline has a powerful V6 engine, you get 5,000 lbs of towing capacity regardless of which trim level you choose. The Ridgeline also has more than 1,500 lbs of payload capacity in every model and nearly 34 cu.ft. of cargo capacity in the truck bed. With more than seven inches of ground clearance and an EPA-estimated 21 MPG combined fuel economy, the Ridgeline delivers in every way.[b]

Interior Features

Sophisticated Interior

Even though there are numerous trim levels available for the 2022 Honda Ridgeline, you get a fantastic truck with a sophisticated interior no matter which one you choose. Even the baseline trim, the Sport, has a lot to offer, including a standard 8-inch infotainment display and a 7-speaker sound system that fills the cabin with fantastic audio. The Sport includes speed-sensitive volume compensation to make your listening experience even better; plus it has push-button start and power windows and doors, as well as a power tailgate lock. What is particularly impressive is that features like tri-zone automatic climate control, illuminated steering wheel controls, and cruise control are all standard.

If you go up to the RTL trim, then you get some additional luxuries and upgrades for the interior, but not so much that the Sport trim ever feels lacking. The RTL includes LED map lights and illuminated front-seat vanity mirrors for extra lighting inside when you need it. You get an automatic-dimming rearview mirror in the RTL trim, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel for an added touch of sophistication. The RTL also has a 10-way power driver's seat with two-position memory and a 4-way power front-passenger seat, a leather-trimmed interior, and heated front seats.

Pinnacle of Luxury

Finally, the RTL-E trim gives you the pinnacle of luxury and advanced technology inside the 2022 Honda Ridgeline, though it retains its accessible starting price. With the RTL-E, you get a number of upgrades, including an 8-speaker premium sound system with Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation, HD Radio, and a truck-bed audio system. You also get a wireless phone charger with the RTL-E trim, along with a heated steering wheel, courtesy door lighting, and blue ambient LED lighting for a relaxed atmosphere. The upgrades across the different trims are nice, but you never feel like you are being punished for choosing a lower trim if it best meets your needs.

Safety Features

Stay Protected on the Road

Although safety features are not always a priority when people shop for a great truck, they absolutely should be. Impressive towing and a powerful engine are meaningless if your pickup does not help keep you safe and protected on the road. Fortunately, new Honda vehicles offer one of the most impressive suites of safety features in the industry and excellent standard safety technology. This is thanks to the fact that every model comes with Honda Sensing Technologies standard, with only a few extra features available if you want to take safety to the next level.

Honda Sensing Technologies

The standard Honda Sensing Technologies package includes a Forward Collision Warning that alerts you to a potential crash when it is detected, along with a Lane Departure Warning to let you know if you are drifting out of your lane. You also get a Lane Keeping Assist System to help keep you in your lane if you start to drift and Adaptive Cruise Control standard. These systems are supported by a Road Departure Mitigation System, designed to help keep you in your lane and on the road, and a Collision Mitigation Braking System that can detect a potential crash, warn you about it, and enhance braking to help you avoid it.

You also get a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with Dynamic Guidelines standard in every model to assist you with backing up into tight spaces. Other standard features include a comprehensive airbag system, daytime running lights, and Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control. If you want to take your truck's safety even further, then there is also an available Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitor, which will alert you if a vehicle is in your blind spot and warn you when something is about to pass behind your truck while you are in reverse. You can also get Auto High-Beam Headlights that adjust for oncoming traffic to help keep the road illuminated without potentially blinding other drivers.
