2024 Honda Civic

How does a vehicle earn cultural status? Does it need to be readily available? Reliable? Does it need to have been on the market long enough to span generations of drivers? There isn't a clear indication of what can ultimately become a cultural phenomenon – it's just something that happens and is rarely planned. However, which vehicle matches all three of the criteria we've listed? The answer is the Honda Civic.

Sedans are top-rated nationwide – especially for drivers who want efficiency, reliability, and affordability. The 2024 Honda Civic is a great all-around vehicle because it doesn't make any concessions in providing a richer automotive experience at a low price. Buying the 2024 Civic, in particular, is a safe bet because it's the sedan that does it all – cargo space, safety features, tech features, performance, efficiency – it's an exhaustive list, but one that coalesces into something more significant than the sum of its parts.

Like the Civic models before it, the first thing the 2024 Civic gets right is pricing. The 2024 Civic Sedan begins with an MSRP of $23,950 for the LX base trim.[a] The 2024 Civic is available in three other trims besides the base model, with the Sport, EX, and Touring all following, each one more luxurious than the last. Spending less than $10,000 ushers you from the base model to the top-end Touring trim, but the Civic LX is a rather feature-complete package for the price.

Starting MSRP: $23,950[a]
Horsepower (hp): 158
Torque (lb-ft): 138
Cargo Volume (cu.ft.): 14.8

Performance

The 2024 Civic Sedan can be paired with one of two engines. The first powertrain configuration features a 2.0L I-4 engine, and a turbocharged 1.5L I-4 engine is available. Both of these engines pair with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), meaning the 2024 model takes its cues from the 2021 model onwards. In many ways, the 2024 Civic Sedan is nothing like its counterparts from 2020 and before while remaining true to the performance and efficiency that so many people attribute to this world-renowned sedan.

The Standard 2.0L I-4 Engine

With the base 2.0L I-4 engine, the 2024 Civic outputs 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. The setup is an identical powertrain to Civic models from years past that utilize the same engine, including size, horsepower, torque output, and transmission. The 2024 Civic – like the past few models that preceded it – is one of the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid sedans you can buy. The 1.5L I-4 engine earns EPA-estimated ratings of 31 MPG in the city and 40 MPG on the highway, which calls for 35 MPG combined.

The Turbocharged 1.5L I-4 Engine

The reasons why you would want a turbocharged engine have not changed, so opting for a turbocharged engine in your Civic sedan means it's more performant and especially more fuel-efficient. The turbocharged 1.5L I-4 engine in the 2024 Civic Sedan outputs 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque – this is a 28% increase in torque output. Fuel efficiency is better in all three categories, which is to say, whether you're driving around your local city or traveling out of it via the freeway, the turbocharged engine in the 2024 Civic will save you money with its EPA-estimated ratings of 33 MPG in the city and 42 MPG on the highway, and 36 MPG combined.

Interior

The interior of the 2024 Civic is one of its biggest highlights and is one of the best sedan interiors of its model year. Part of this has to do with the interior dimensions, and the other parts have to do with multimedia and comfort features.

Comfortable Interior Space for All Onboard

The interior has a respectable amount of head and legroom for both front and back seat passengers, and as for your cargo, the trunk sports a spacious 14.8 cu.ft. of space. When driving the vehicle, you and the passenger sitting next to you will have 39.3 inches of headroom and 42.3 inches of legroom. Additionally, the 2024 Civic's front row allows for 57 inches of shoulder room and 54.3 inches of hip room. For a five-passenger sedan, the rear row of seats is also not a tight fit for passengers thanks to 37.1 inches of headroom, 37.4 inches of legroom, and 56 and 48.9 inches of shoulder and hip room, respectively.

Seating Options

Unless you opt for the Touring trim, you and the front-row passenger will have manually adjustable cloth seats. However, the EX – like the Touring – has heated front seats. The Touring trim provides a world of difference in both look and feel when it comes to its seats. The five seats in the 2024 Civic Touring are made with genuine leather, and while the Sport, EX, and Touring all have a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, it feels more cohesive with the Touring as the leather seats complement the other leather-wrapped components nicely.

Connectivity

The LX, Sport, and EX trims all come with a 7-inch infotainment center with Bluetooth HandsFree, HondaLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Your 2024 Civic's sound system is entirely dependent on which trim level you buy: the base Civic gets a 4-speaker audio system with 160W of power, the Sport and EX both double this to eight speakers with an additional 20W of power, and the Touring gets a Bose sound system with 12-speakers and a native subwoofer channel. The Touring also gets HD Radio and SiriusXM due to an upgraded infotainment center coming standard – the infotainment center is not available on any of the three lower-tier trims.

Safety

Every 2024 Civic has the Honda Sensing safety suite. What is Honda Sensing? Honda Sensing is the overarching umbrella that houses over a dozen advanced safety features within the underlying software in your sedan – the stuff you aren't bound to see. These safety features aren't like a seatbelt because, for the most part, you aren't required to do anything to make them work.

Honda Sensing

With every 2024 Civic comes at least a handful of advanced safety features because of its use of the Honda Sensing safety suite. The first feature is a Forward Collision Warning to alert the driver of an oncoming frontal collision with ample time to either maneuver or bring the vehicle to a stop. If you can't apply the brakes, this is where the Collision Mitigation Braking System comes into play. It makes use of front-facing sensors to act as the second part to the Forward Collision Warning, as that feature alerts you, the Collision Mitigation Braking System takes action if you don't, to bring your vehicle down to a slow enough speed – or to a complete stop – to prevent an accident, or at least reduce the severity of an impact.

Available Safety Features

All of these features come standard with the 2024 Civic, but if you buy the EX or Touring trim, you'll also get a Blind Spot Information System, and the latter trim also receives features like Front and Rear Parking Sensors, a Rear Cross Traffic Monitor, and Low-Speed Braking Control. No matter which trim you choose, you'll get a host of innovative safety and driver-assist features that will allow you to drive with confidence, no matter where your drive takes you.
